Description

Explore the world of lidded forms in this 10 week class!

This class will focus on creating a variety of lidded and covered forms. Students will develop essential throwing skills while exploring new techniques related to lid construction, fitment, and proportion. Learn how to use shrinkage rulers and calipers to make traditional thrown lids, while having the opportunity to use premade cork and wooden gasket lids.

Lindsey will start each class with a demonstration, after which students will receive one-on-one instruction while working independently. Throughout the session, students will watch and learn how to make, trim, and finish various lidded forms, such as closed forms, jars with cork lids, carafes with cup lids, perfume bottles, fermentation jars, gasket lids for tumblers, and more! Glazing techniques relating to lidded forms will be demonstrated towards the end of the session.

This is a technical, project-based class. Students should be prepared to watch demonstrations and follow along with Lindsey as she will focus on one aspect of the process each week. Students can expect to make 6-8 lidded vessels.
