Description
Learn the fundamentals of screen printing in this comprehensive, hands-on class. Transform your black-and-white (no grayscale) graphics into vibrant color silkscreen prints using light-sensitive emulsion. Students will learn how to prepare, register, and print while gaining guided practice in mixing inks, burning emulsion, troubleshooting, and experimenting.
Students will create screens featuring their own hand-drawn illustrations or digital designs and print them on paper. They will also become familiar with the Chases Garage print shop, equipment, and screen printing processes! By the end of this five-week intensive, students will leave with their own unique works and one 10-print edition.
Skill Level
No experience necessary, all levels welcome!
What to Bring
A 1 and 2 color design idea done in pencil, marker, paint or digitally. More details regarding design requirements will be discussed on your first day of class.
Pencil, Eraser, Sketchbook, Sharpie
Paper Towels
The studio will provide paper to make one-of-a-kind works and a 10 print edition, but we encourage you to bring different types of your own paper to print on. Get creative!
What’s Included
All printing materials (screens, ink, paper, etc.) are provided by Chases Garage.
Students will be printing 9x12 and 11x14 sizes.
Logistics
Registered students will receive a “welcome” email one week prior to the start date.
Ned Roche
Ned Roche is the Co-Owner and Director of Chases Garage Artist Studios & Gallery. A native of York, ME, Ned earned his BFA in illustration from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2010. He is a printmaker and ceramicist with over 10 years of experience; sometimes he folds “Things” out of clay.
TERMS + CONDITIONS
Adults (18 or older) may register for classes & workshops at Chases Garage. Chases reserves the right to cancel courses, substitute instructors, change course times, and limit enrollment. The student agrees to abide by any and all rules and policies of the studios. Chases will assume no responsibility for any loss, personal or physical. With enrollment, a student consents to being photographed in classes (unless we informed in writing). These photographs may be used by Chases in future promotional efforts without specific written permission from the student.
CLASS WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICY
100% Refund (minus processing fee): Student must withdraw at least 6 business days prior to the start of the class.
50% Refund (minus processing fee): Issued when a student withdraws 5 business days or less from the start of the class.
NO REFUNDS ARE GIVEN ONCE A CLASS BEGINS.
If Chases cancels a course, registered students will be notified and all fees will be refunded in full. Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements will be canceled, typically two to four business days before the class begins.
