Description

Join Lindsey Howarth in a 7 week class focusing on throwing ceramic luminaries from start to finish. Students will be guided through the entire process of throwing, trimming, piercing, glazing, and finishing luminaries. Lindsey will start each class with a demonstration, after which students receive one-on-one instruction while working independently. She will demonstrate a variety of shaping techniques while paying attention to proportion, style, and consistency. Once the luminaries are trimmed, students will learn how to map out their individual designs onto the surface and pierce the clay using a variety of tools. Everyone will glaze together as a group. On the last day of class everyone will string up their luminaries while also having the opportunity to look at everyone’s finished work and discuss the results as a group. Students can expect to leave this class with 2-4 finished luminaries.

This is a technical, project-based class. Students should be prepared to watch demonstrations and follow along with Lindsey as she will focus on one aspect of the process each week. This class is not intended to be used as “open studio time”.
